At the service of children in need , since 2000

“The world may not change if you Sponsor or be the Guardian of a child in need,
but for that child, their world will change”.

SPONSOR A CHILD TODAY

A call to sponsor children in need by the executive President of LINK-UP

The Guardian Care support system is at the core of our work. The current kinship system allowing children to be placed informally within extended family and non-family members has exposed many children to abuses and exploitation hence defeating the purpose of caring for them.

Thus, our Guardian Care system helps to mitigate this challenge by formalizing the kinship care system.

Assist a child in need and make the World a better place for the development of children.

Introduction

LINK-UP Children is a non-profit, development and humanitarian organization, founded in 2000 with the aim to assist the neediest children and support their families economically to get out of poverty. These also include Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) and Returnees, victims of the ongoing conflict of the English speaking regions of Cameroon.

It is non-discriminatory, non-partisan and governed by the current laws of Association in Cameroon and International conventions for the protection of children and minority groups.

LINK-UP works in favour of promoting the Family Support and Care system, as opposed to Care Institutions as a major response to family breakdown, effects of conflict or abject poverty suffered by children.

This is through a distinctive Child Sponsorship and Guardian Care system, capable of forming personal and lasting relationships between a needy child and a dedicated and compassionate sponsor.

Besides assisting needy children, LINK-UP also assist poor families including IDPs and grassroots members of their host communities, by promoting Economic Empowerment and Livelihood Development opportunities. This is by mobilizing them into Self Help Development Groups (SHDG).

Through these groups everyone in need is registered and could benefit from the Financial Inclusion Services promoted by LINK-UP through the Grassroots Digital Finance Hubs.

These SHDGs are currently being promoted within the safer areas of the conflict zones dominated by IDPs and returnees.

Goals

1.To enhance access to sustained Sponsorship and Guardian Care opportunities for orphans and vulnerable children.

2.To enhance access to financial inclusion services to struggling economically active individuals from low income communities.

Our values

Accountability, Transparency, Trust and Sacrifice

Before the coming of the ongoing crisis in the English speaking regions of Cameroon that began in 2016, there were already very many unattended children in need.

The situation is being worsen with the presence of many internally displaced children.

Due to the complex and rigorous procedure for adoption in Cameroon and taking into account the non-existence of foster care services, needy orphans and vulnerable children are neglected to their fate.

With the deteriorating situation of the African family support system, coupled with the high level of poverty, these children are trapped in various forms of abusive informal relationships which go unnoticed and under reported.

Due to the above challenges, needy children are poorly protected, leading to many children trapped in various abusive domestic situations.

Many are deprived of their basic rights to education and end up as adults poorly equipped to face the world or as delinquents, thus perpetuating the vicious cycle of poverty.

It is against this background that LINK-UP is working hard to formalize the sector by promoting, Child Sponsorship and Guardian Care services for these children.

What is Child Poverty

Child poverty is a universal problem with devastating consequences on children and societies.

Poor children with little or no opportunities to develop their full potentials grow up into adults lacking in the basic knowledge and skills to be productive citizens and this perpetuates the vicious cycle of poverty by producing more vulnerable children.

In the absence of foster care services, we promote child sponsorship and guardian care services.

It is difficult to break this vicious cycle of poverty, without help from outside the family.

The Global Guardian Parent Program, has been developed by LINK-UP over the last 20 years, to mitigate this situation, and connect such children to goodwill sponsors.

We invite organisations and corporate institutions with Social Responsibility policies for OVC, to join us in this cause.

There are many individuals, homes or families with a heart of love and the means to care for a child in need as well as there are many children in need of care and love.

We are also inviting organizations and corporate institutions with friendly Corporate Social Responsibility policies for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), to join us in building a better society for the development of children.

Priority is given to orphans, neediest children with high morals, values and great desire to learn.
